Introduction
We take children from the age of three but we are registered from two and a half upwards. Places will be offered to children of a qualifying age at the start of each new term. In the case of limited availability, priority will be given to the earliest applicant on the waiting list. The Pre-school administrator will make contact when a place becomes vacant and offer available sessions. We are open from 8:45am to 11:45am on Monday to Friday term time only. Details of the term dates are displayed on the notice board and will be issued in newsletters. [top]
Our Aims
We aim to provide high quality care and education for your child with the emphasis on learning through play. We operate an inclusive practise and do not discriminate against any child regardless of their gender, ethnicity, disability or special needs. [top]
The Staff
All of our staff have been fully trained in the provision of pre-school education and are all very experienced in dealing with pre-school children. They also receive ongoing training to ensure that the care given to our children are both up to date and of the highest standard.
A member of staff holding a current first aid certificate will be available at all times.
Our key worker system gives each staff member particular responsibility for a small group of children. Each child in the group has one special adult to relate to which can make settling in much easier. In addition, the key worker is in a position to tailor the groups curriculum to the unique needs of each child. The key worker maintains links with the child’s home setting, working with parents to ensure that all children are supported in reaching their full potential. [top]
Committee
As a registered charity we are a committee-run pre-school and the committee is elected at the AGM each October. The committee’s main roles are overseeing the administrative and financial running of the pre-school and organising fund-raising and events like the Christmas party etc. We cannot function without a committee so if you are interested in joining then please speak to a current committee member to find out what is entailed. Parental Involvement
Both the Pre-school Learning Alliance and Grangewood Pre-school recognises parents as the first and most important educators of their young children. We aim to support parents and are very keen that you should feel part of Grangewood Pre-school and welcome any contribution you can make. We would like to stress that you are very welcome to stay during a session. We also welcome any comments you may have about any aspect of the pre-school so please feel free to speak to the supervisor to discuss matters.

We do appreciate parents helping out when they can so if you can spare a morning or part of a morning to see what your child does at pre-school then please add you name to the rota list on the notice board. If you do a rota morning then please read the notice on the notice board that gives general information and guidelines about helping out.
If you have any talents you are willing to share with us (e.g. playing a musical instrument) we would be please to hear from you. [top]

Special Needs
The number of adults present in the pre-school enables us to provide individual attention for each child. Every child is able to progress at their own rate in all areas of development and this is true for children with and without disabilities or learning difficulties. We are experienced in working close liaison with professionals across the range of special needs. If you would like to discuss the group’s ability to meet your own child’s special needs please talk to the supervisor or your own child ’s key worker. [top]

Fees
We are registered for the Government’s Nursery Education Grant. As of April 2006 this provides 38 weeks of pre-school education (2.5 hours per session, 5 sessions per week)
Please contact Grangewood Pre-school administrator for further details. [top]

Illness
For the sake of Pre-school staff and the other children please do not bring your child to pre-school if they are suffering from anything infections, (e.g. conjunctivitis or sickness and diarrhoea). Please allow at least 24 hours after the last attack before your child returns. If you are in any doubt then please consult the supervisor for advice. You are also required to inform us if your child has any other infectious illness (e.g. chicken pox). The supervisor has the right to request that you take your child home if it is felt that they are not well enough to come to pre-school. If your child becomes unwell at pre-school we will send them home so please ensure you inform us of any changes to your contact telephone numbers. Please refer to our health and hygiene policy. [top]
Security
For security reasons we will be asking you to complete a form advising us of the people who you have authorised to collect your child. Please ensure that this is updated if necessary as we cannot release children to a person for whom we do not have the appropriate authority. [top]
Dress
Please dress your child in clothes they can easily manage when going to the toilet etc. Soft shoes i.e. slippers or plimsolls must be worn for safety reasons. Please mark your child’s clothes clearly with their name. [top]
Food & Drink
We provide a snack of milk or water and a biscuit or fruit during the mid-morning break so please let us know of any allergies that your child may suffer from. The milk is provided free of charge but we do appreciate any donations of biscuits/fruit (and tissues). [top]

Should your child leave Grangewood Pre-school we would appreciate four weeks written notice in order for us to fill the vacant place. [top]
Notices
A notice board is situated in the entrance where you will find details of any forthcoming events or important information so please check it regularly. Regular newsletters are also issued so please read them. [top]
Training
The PLA often runs courses that may be of interest to parents or carers. Please watch the notice board for any details. [top]
Recycling
Any empty cardboard boxes, magazines, buttons, string newspapers etc are all gratefully received for collage work and model making. The only items we cannot use are the inside of toilet rolls and polystyrene. Without these items we cannot extend the children’s collage activities.
We would also be very grateful to hear from anyone who has any contacts who could provide paper/card etc – in fact just about anything! [top]

Photographs
Please note that we do occasionally take photographs of the children during the pre-school session. These are used purely to illustrate what activities we offer and not used for any other purpose. If you would prefer your child not to be photographed please inform a member of staff. [top]

Complaints Procedure
We hope that you will be happy with the service we offer but if you do feel that you would like to make a complaint then please speak to the pre-school supervisor in the first instance.
