Setting the boundaries in Pre-school
We thought if parents/carers know the boundaries and social rules of the pre-school, as well as the staff, you would be able to share them with your child.

• We try to be kind to each other •
• We help each other •
• We share toys and tools •
• We speak without shouting in pre-school •
• We walk in pre-school •
• We sit down quietly when asked •
• We say please and thank you or communicate with gestures •
• We listen to each other when we have something to say •
• We help tidy the toys and put them away correctly •
• We take turns with toys and equipment •
• We do not say unkind things or call each other names •

Some of the boundaries set out by adults for children

    • We never label a child as “naughty”: we look at it as unacceptable behaviour or acceptable behaviour and work from that point.
    • We encourage children to have confidence in themselves
    • We encourage children to wash and dry their own hands
    • We encourage children to wipe their own noses and dispose of the tissue
    • We encourage the children to use all of their senses
    • Children are encouraged to try using all the apparatus with adult support
    • Children are encouraged to take risks under supervision e.g. on the climbing frame.
    • Children are encouraged to use the computer and mouse
    • We never belittle or embarrass a child
    • We thank the children and praise them for what they have achieved
    • We listen to children and respect their views
    • We encourage the children to be independent
    • The staff and adults in the pre-school are good role models for the children

If you would like to read these policies they can be found on the table in the foyer, or alternatively ask the Pre-school supervisor for copies. They are reviewed annually, normally at the AGM. We would very much like any comments you may have regarding their contents so please speak to a member of staff or committee to discuss your suggestions further.
